The Philadelphia Eagles' defense under Vic Fangio remains a big part of their identity. It was already heading into 2026 looking like one of the best units in the NFL, and then the Eagles traded for Pro Bowl pass rusher Jonathan Greenard in April. Philadelphia immediately handed him a four-year, $100 million extension, cementing him as a cornerstone of the defense for years to come.
But right before the start of training camp, Greenard suffered a pectoral strain during a weightlifting session and was forced to miss all of camp and the preseason. As a result, Eagles fans haven't truly gotten to see their new $100 million man in action.
That changed on Wednesday, though, as Greenard returned to the practice field for the first time since joining the team. The Eagles had taken him off the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list on Aug. 30, ensuring he wouldn't miss the first four games of the regular season, but his practice status up to this point remained unknown.

This doesn't necessarily mean he'll suit up in the Eagles' season opener against the Commanders on Sunday, but it's a step in the right direction.

Greenard spent his first four seasons in Houston before joining the Vikings in 2024, where he emerged as one of the league's top edge rushers. That year, he racked up 59 combined tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 22 quarterback hits, 12 sacks, and four forced fumbles, earning his first Pro Bowl nod. His 2025 season was cut short by a shoulder injury, but he still finished with 38 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 12 QB hits, three sacks, and a forced fumble across 12 games.
The Eagles traded two third-round picks to get him and immediately paid him before he ever took a snap with the team. They clearly believe he can turn back the clock and be the elite disruptor off the edge he was two years ago. With him now back at practice, Eagles fans might not have to wait much longer to see that happen.
