With the NFL’s legal tampering period set to begin Monday at noon ET, the Philadelphia Eagles are making one last-ditch effort to lock up star pass-rusher Jaelan Phillips before he hits the open market.

The team has just $12.52 million in available cap space, per Over the Cap, and locking Phillips up would require a few other moves to be done to free up the funds.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported on Sunday Philadelphia is eyeing a $20 million-per-year deal for Phillips, who logged 44 pressures, 35 hurries, 28 tackles, seven QB hits, two sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery in nine games with the team after coming over after the trade deadline.

Fowler also stated the Eagles are working on a backup plan in case the Phillips deal doesn’t work out, and they have their sights set on a Pro Bowl pass-rusher that just became available in recent days.

“The Eagles are believed to have inquired about Minnesota's Jonathan Greenard,” Fowler reported. “The Vikings have received many inquiries on Greenard, who will be far cheaper to acquire than (Maxx) Crosby. A Day 2 pick probably gets a deal done.

“But complicating matters is Greenard's contract. Teams say he wants a new deal. His current contract is set to pay him $38 million over the next two years. (Boye) Mafe is also considered a viable edge option if the Phillips deal doesn't materialize.”

The Vikings just made Greenard available via trade in the last few days, and he’s been drawing interest from several teams already.

The 28-year-old DE is in the third season of a four-year, $76 million deal with the Vikings, and he’s coming off a disappointing year in which he totaled just three sacks after recording 12 the season before.

Greenard, a Pro Bowler in 2024, led Minnesota with 47 pressures, 35 hurries, and eight QB hits last season, and he posted his best season in 2024 with a career-high 84 pressures, 62 hurries, and 11 QB hits, per Pro Football Focus.
