The Atlanta Falcons underwent a large makeover this offseason, bringing in one of the biggest free agents on the open market. Atlanta came to terms with veteran starting quarterback Kirk Cousins, despite the signal-caller coming off tearing his Achilles this past season.

Cousins tore the Achilles during Week 8 last year against the Green Bay Packers and missed the rest of the regular season. The four-time Pro Bowler signed with the Falcons this offseason on a massive four-year deal that was worth $180 million.

Many questioned why the Falcons would give Cousins such a large contract due to his injury, but Atlanta has said they believe he is the man to lead them forward. While Cousins isn't expected to play in the preseason due to his recovery, there have been some questions about his status for Week 1 despite him practicing.

However, during the Falcons' preseason opener against the Miami Dolphins, Cousins provided an update on his status for Week 1. Atlanta will be taking on the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first game of the year and Cousins should be ready to go.

"I'll be ready to go Week 1," Cousins said during a sideline interview. "I've been going full speed now for all of camp, just getting better every week."

The 35-year-old is getting ready for this next chapter in his career and it should be an entertaining one for all involved. Cousins has been one of the more consistent quarterbacks in the NFL over the last few seasons, giving the Falcons a steady hand under center.

In eight games before the injury last season, Cousins threw for 2,331 yards and 18 touchdowns with the Minnesota Vikings. He helped Minnesota reach the postseason in 2022 and will be looking to do the same with Atlanta this year.

The Falcons play in a relatively weak NFC South division so it's open for the taking. Atlanta has some strong offensive weapons for Cousins to work with, such as Rondale Moore, Darnell Mooney, Bijan Robinson, Kyle Pitts, Drake London, and more.

If Cousins can lead the Falcons to the postseason, it would be seen as a massive win for the team. Atlanta also brought in a new head coach, Raheem Morris, so the two will work together closely to get the Falcons organization back on track.
