Despite being the No. 1 overall pick, there's a chance quarterback Fernando Mendoza will start his NFL career on the bench while the Las Vegas Raiders start Kirk Cousins.

He's not worried about beating Cousins for the starting job, though. He just wants to bring quality competition the team has been craving from the quarterback spot.

"Being a part of the Silver and Black, we want to compete every single day and do the best that we can for the organization and best for the team so we can win games," Mendoza told the team website’s Paul Gutierrez. Mendoza made it clear he's not competing against Cousins, but rather competing for the starting role.

"Competing with each other [is] pushing each other to be the best quarterback we can possibly be for the Las Vegas Raiders, and to enable [us] to then win as many games as possible," Mendoza said. "Against [is] withholding information, wishing maybe not the best intent on somebody."

The star quarterback capped off a historic college football season by winning the Heisman Trophy and the national title. In his final season he completed 72% of his passes for 3,535 yards with a staggering 41 touchdown passes to just six interceptions en route to becoming the No. 1 pick.
