The Kansas City Chiefs began their 2026 campaign with a strong showing against the Denver Broncos in primetime, securing a 31-10 final score at Arrowhead Stadium.

Recently-signed running back Kenneth Walker III was the clear MVP for the Chiefs, who dominated the Broncos' defense on the ground. The reigning Super Bowl MVP rushed for 173 yards and one touchdown while reeling in three catches for 18 yards and an additional score through the air.

Last year, the Chiefs' run game was lackluster to say the least. Kareem Hunt led the way with 611 rushing yards, followed by Isiah Pacheco with 462. Patrick Mahomes ranked third in team rushing with a career-high 422 before suffering season-ending ACL/LCL tears in Week 15.

ESPN analyst Jason Kelce lauded the Chiefs' new-look offense with Walker at the running back position.

"Last year, the Chiefs had one explosive run of more than 20 yards from a running back all season. Walker had 2 today, he completely changes the Chiefs offense, they haven’t had a back this dynamic in Pats entire career," Kelce wrote on social media after the game.
