When the Dallas Cowboys traded Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers last offseason, owner Jerry Jones wanted to make one thing clear: they weren't rebuilding; they were reloading.

Following an up-and-down first half of the 2025 NFL season, when the Cowboys had one of the worst defenses in football without their superstar anchor, Jones promised he'd make a deal to turn things around.

It didn't happen, with the Cowboys missing the playoffs once more.

Heading into the offseason, Dallas fans got their hopes up again with the rumors that the Cowboys were hot on the heels of Maxx Crosby to make a blockbuster trade with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Crosby, fiery, elite, and a destroyer on the defensive end, could bring excitement back to a Cowboys defense that was flatter than a three-day-old soda in the Texas sun last season.

On Friday, though, those dreams of Crosby wearing the Cowboys logo were dashed. The Raiders came to an agreement with the Baltimore Ravens, getting back-to-back first-rounders in the next two NFL Drafts for the star defender.

After the trade was announced, news that Jones and the Cowboys' brain trust would not budge on their offer of a first and a second-rounder came to light, prompting even the most patient of Dallas fans to express frustration online.

“Jerry Jones has lost that step when it comes to landing big-time names," a fan posted on X. "Players used to be excited to play for the Cowboys, now they would much rather go elsewhere. We are seeing it year after year, and the Maxx Crosby situation is just the latest example. Jerry got beat again.”

"Jerry Jones only getting two firsts and Kenny Clark for Parsons is brutal return," posted another. "Sauce got 2 firsts. Crosby got 2 firsts."

A series of Cowboys fans demanded that Jones retire in posts announcing the Crosby trade to the Ravens, showing their anger over their team's defensive situation.

With free agency opening on Monday, it'll be another chance to see if the Cowboys can land the big fish, this time with Bengals' defensive end Trey Hendrickson.

Jones, always confident, believes he knows how to get the Cowboys back to the promised land. Cowboys fans, though, have been waiting now over thirty years for that promise to come to fruition.
