New York Jets safety Minkah Fitzpatrick said Thursday that his disputed comments after the team’s latest loss had not caused a problem inside the locker room.

The Jets (2-6) have lost three straight games and six of their past seven. Fitzpatrick addressed the reaction to wording that circulated as “Jets being Jets” after Sunday’s 38-33 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. The Jets' public relations staff subsequently clarified that Fitzpatrick had actually said “Jets beating Jets.”

He said his point was about the Jets beating themselves through penalties and mistakes, rather than a broader criticism of the franchise. Fitzpatrick spoke after practice as New York prepared to visit Kansas City.

“It hasn't really caused any stir within this locker room,” Fitzpatrick said. “I think that's the most important thing.”

He said teammates understood the context and what he was trying to communicate. The discussion frustrated him in the moment, he said, because the team was trying to win and the remarks had drawn attention away from that work.

“I know what I said,” he said. “It doesn't matter. We're playing Kansas City this week.”

New York’s last victory was a 17-12 win over Cleveland on Oct. 11. Since then, the Jets have lost 26-19 to New England, 28-25 to Miami and 38-33 to Las Vegas.

The Jets visit Kansas City (5-2) on Sunday, Nov. 8. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on CBS.

The Chiefs have lost consecutive road games at Seattle and Denver after winning their first five games. They return to Arrowhead Stadium for Sunday’s matchup.

Fitzpatrick, a ninth-year NFL veteran, has 45 combined tackles this season, with 21 solo stops and 24 assists. He also has three passes defensed, one interception and one fumble recovery.

He recorded nine combined tackles against the Raiders, including seven assists. His season high was 16 against Chicago, a game in which he also intercepted a pass.
