Sitting at 5-2 on the season, the Kansas City Chiefs are expected to potentially be in the market to be buyers at the upcoming NFL trade deadline. Former All-Pro defensive end JJ Watt believes one name that could be available at the deadline could bring a significant improvement to the Chiefs offense.
Thus far this season, the Chiefs have been led by star running back Kenneth Walker and a dominant rushing attack. But over the last few weeks, we have seen opponents start to focus their attention at stopping the run and making Chiefs pass catchers beat them.
While the return of star wide receiver Rashee Rice in Week 8 did provide an obvious boost to the Chiefs offense, JJ Watt seems to believe that the Kansas City offense needs to prioritize adding a dominant outside receiver to compliment Rice and Travis Kelce in the passing game.

During an appearance on the CBS digital show "Set Hut", Watt floated the possibility of the Chiefs potentially inquiring about a trade for New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson, who he believes would "open things up" for their offense.
"Garrett could definitely help a team," said Watt. "You mentioned it this week I believe, with the Kansas City Chiefs. I do think the Kansas City Chiefs need some sort of big, physical presence wide receiver. An X-type who can go out there and stretch the field and open things up for them. Because right now, as we have seen, everything is short. Absolutely everything is short, behind the line of scrimmage. These short little dump offs. And they are relying so heavily on Kenneth Walker, who has been great. But they just need somebody to help open up that offense since Tyquan Thornton went down. They just don't have it."

Notably, there has been speculation that the Jets could potentially be looking to move Wilson for the right price at the deadline. But there are also obvious reasons why they may not want to move on from Wilson.
The Jets did believe in Wilson enough to extend him to a four-year $130 million deal just last year. And while the Jets do have enticing young wide receivers on their roster like Omar Cooper Jr. and Adonai Mitchell that may deserve bigger roles, Wilson is clearly their most established wideout on their roster.
That being said, the Jets could continue to further gain assets for the future for Wilson. The Chiefs meanwhile could make a huge leap by adding Wilson to potentially try to emerge as the top contender in the AFC.
It will certainly be interesting to see whether the Chiefs look to target either Wilson or another impact wide receiver before next week's trade deadline. But in the meantime, the Chiefs will focus on snapping their two-game losing streak against Wilson's Jets on Sunday.
