San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch revealed four players won't be participating at the start of training camp for injury-related reasons.

Tight end George Kittle (Achilles), defensive tackle Alfred Collins (shoulder), defensive end Mykel Williams (ACL) and running back Isaac Guerendo (pectoral) will begin on the active physically unable to perform list. Kittle tore his Achilles in January, but made it clear he plans to be reads for the team's season-opener against the Los Angeles Rams.

Lynch opened up on the possibility of Kittle being ready for Week 1 and had a promising update on the star tight end.

"George's rehab is coming tremendous," Lynch said. "I know you guys have heard from him and he's doing really well. And that's very exciting. He's doing everything possible to be ready for Week 1. And we're thrilled with his progress."

Kittle played in just 11 games for the 49ers last season, but managed to finish second on the team with 57 receptions and seven receiving touchdowns while racking up 628 yards through the air. The star tight end went over 1,000 yards receiving in each of the previous two seasons.

San Francisco opens the season against Los Angeles in Melbourne, Australia on Sept. 10.
