Lamar Jackson instantly suffered another injury in his highly anticipated return for the Baltimore Ravens.

After missing three games with a high ankle sprain, Jackson returned for Sunday's marquee AFC game against the Buffalo Bills. Unfortunately, the two-time MVP only lasted one play.

Jackson started the offense's first drive with a pass attempt, but his hand hit Bills linebacker Greg Rousseau's arm on the release. After gingerly jogging off the field, the star quarterback was escorted to the locker room with his throwing hand wrapped.

CBS Sports sideline reporter Evan Washburn said they were taking him to the medical blue tent before "immediately" going to the tunnel instead. The Ravens initially called Jackson questionable to return with a thumb injury but ruled him out less than 15 minutes later.

It's a potentially brutal blow for Jackson and the Ravens, who started Sunday last in the AFC North at 4-3. They lost back-to-back division games against the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals with Tyler Huntley under center.

Huntley replaced Jackson, and the opening drive ended on a three-and-out. The Bills jumped to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter behind Josh Allen's ninth rushing touchdown of the season and a 56-yard field goal from Tyler Bass, but Derrick Henry responded with a 2-yard touchdown run to narrow the deficit.

Baltimore must defeat one of the NFL's top contenders on the road without Jackson. Making matters worse, he'll have a short week to recover before the Ravens host the AFC South-leading Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night.
