The Tennessee Titans’ 31-29 win over the Cleveland Browns last week came with its good and its bad.
On the plus side, the team picked up its second win of the season and running back Tony Pollard put on a show with his 161-yard, two-touchdown performance. However, the win did take the Titans out of the running for the No. 1 overall pick and two players were hit with pretty significant fines for what transpired during the game.
When the NFL released its list of weekly fines, linebacker Eric Gray was on there twice and fellow linebacker Jihad Ward also appeared.

Gray was hit with matching $6,492 fines for two separate facemask penalties — one at the 5:01 mark of the fourth quarter, the other at the 1:21 mark of the same quarter.
However, Ward’s punishment was slightly more controversial.

The 31-year-old LB was slapped with a $7,806 fine for his hit on Browns rookie QB Shedeur Sanders. Ward’s fine was listed as a hit on a quarterback (blow to the head/neck), and he was flagged during the game and hit with a 15-yard rough-the-passer penalty.
Fortunately, Sanders wasn’t injured on the play, and he nearly tied the game up after leading a seven-play, 80-yard touchdown drive, capped off with a 7-yard touchdown pass from Sanders to rookie tight end Harold Fannin Jr.
Ward’s hit moved the Browns from a first-and-10 at the Cleveland 20-yard line to a first-and-10 two yards shy of midfield, and allowed Sanders to put up career numbers — 364 yards passing, three touchdowns, 29 yards rushing, one touchdown.
