The outcome of last Sunday’s 27-19 loss to the Baltimore Ravens wasn’t the only disappointing thing to happen to Minnesota Vikings pass-rusher Dallas Turner.
Turner finished with two tackles, one pass defensed, one pressure, and one hurry, in a losing effort, but his wallet also took quite the hit for two plays that happened during the game.
Turner was hit with matching $17,389 fines by the NFL on Saturday — one for unnecessary roughness (hip-drop tackle) in the first quarter on Ravens running back Justice Hill, and the other for a hit on Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson with 10 seconds left in the second quarter.

During the play, Turner had a clear path to Jackson after he completed his drop back, and after wrapping the two-time MVP up around the chest, Turner drove Jackson into the turf with all of his weight and appeared to dead-weight on top of him.
Fortunately, Jackson wasn’t injured on the play, though Turner was flagged for his actions. His fine is part of the NFL’s initiative to better protect quarterbacks and encourage better player safety.
The play didn’t seem to bother Jackson, who finished with 176 yards passing and a touchdown plus 36 yards rushing on nine carries. The win marked the third straight for Baltimore — all since Jackson’s return from a hamstring injury that sidelined him for a month.
