Every training camp seems to produce an unexpected name, and the Atlanta Falcons may have found theirs.

Undrafted rookie quarterback Jack Strand is already making a really good impression.

Nobody is suggesting Strand is about to jump to the top of the depth chart, but he's making the most of every chance he gets. For an undrafted rookie trying to earn a roster spot, that's exactly what coaches want to see this time of year.

He's also getting praise from players who know the game.

Tight end Kyle Pitts has played with several quarterbacks since entering the NFL, and he likes what he's seeing from the former MSU Moorhead standout.

Jack Strand #18 of the Atlanta Falcons passes during training camp at IBM Performance Field on July 29, 2026 in Flowery Branch, Georgia.

"Really impressive to be thrown into the fire like that," Pitts said after Friday's practice, according to Falcons reporter Kevin Knight. "He's embracing it. It's pretty cool to see how he's growing each day. Each day he's getting better."

That's not bad company to have in your corner.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski also shared those thoughts, saying Strand has handled the early stages of camp well despite the challenge of learning an NFL offense.

"Jack is doing a nice job," Stefanski said, according to Matt Urban of the Falcons Wire. "As a quarterback, you're prepared to be the starter. That's just how you do it."

That's the mindset every young quarterback has to bring into camp, regardless of where he was drafted.

For Strand, simply getting to this point is already an accomplishment. Undrafted quarterbacks face long odds every year, and most know they'll have to earn every rep they get. The quickest way to stick around is by showing steady improvement, taking care of the football and proving they can handle the pressure.

So far, Strand seems to be checking those boxes.

It's still early, and training camp compliments don't guarantee regular-season success. But coaches and teammates tend to like players who keep having good practices together.
