The deal sent shockwaves through the sports world, including the NFL, as Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Charles Omenihu posted his feelings about the trade on social media. He was upset that Thompson did not land with the Los Angeles Lakers, which was immediately commented on by longtime Mavericks fan, Patrick Mahomes.

Mahomes is a Texas boy through and through, as the NFL star was born in Tyler, Texas, went to high school at Whitehouse in Whitehouse, Texas, and also played college ball at Texas Tech. As such, he has steep loyalty to the Mavericks, and this signing is surely making him ecstatic.
The Mavericks now have one of the strongest cores in all of the NBA. They may have lost to the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals, but they can come back even stronger with Thompson in tow.
Thompson now joins 2024 MVP runner-up Luka Dončić, Kyrie Irving, and P.J. Washington. This squad should do well in 2024, and could easily return to challenge again for the NBA Title.
Thompson was part of the core unit responsible for the Warriors championship run. They won the title in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2020. Thompson is also a five-time NBA All-Star and two-time All-NBA Third Teamer.
Despite having injury issues between 2019 and 2022, Thompson can now bounce back in a big way with the Mavericks. Dallas rolled through the Los Angeles Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Minnesota Timberwolves en route to their NBA Finals appearance. Unfortunately, they were routed by the Celtics in every way. Thompson can now add some much-needed experience and shooting to the team.
Mahomes and the Chiefs, on the other hand, became back-to-back Super Bowl champions in 2023. They are the first team to do so since the New England Patriots accomplished this goal in 2003 and 2004.
With the Chiefs slated to make a run at being the first team to accomplish a three-peat championship win in NFL history and the Mavericks beefing up their team with Thompson, Mahomes might be really enjoying life come next summer, should the Mavericks also return to the finals and win.
