Josh Simmons hasn’t had a tumultuous start to his NFL career.
The 2025 first-round pick played in just eight games as a rookie last season while dealing with some mystery personal off-the-field issues, and Year 2 is off to a rocky start as well.
Simmons, who hasn’t played a snap yet this season, will be sidelined for at least four more weeks and possibly longer. Oh, and he got into a heated dispute with head coach Andy Reid before Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks that resulted in him being dismissed from a team meeting by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.

“Simmons was sitting with his feet up in the offense's meeting room when Reid asked him to put his feet down, according to multiple sources who witnessed the interaction,” Rapoport and Garafolo wrote. “Simmons pushed back by telling Reid he had to sit that way because his back and hips were aching, according to sources. Reid instructed Simmons to get treatment from the athletic trainers if he was indeed in pain.

...
“The exchange continued and disrupted the meeting, sources said, until Mahomes echoed Reid's sentiment for Simmons to leave the room and go get treatment. A perturbed Simmons left the room but did not leave the building. Later in the day, Simmons apologized to Reid and team leadership by saying he could have handled the situation better.”
According to Rapoport and Garafolo, Simmons later apologized to Reid for his outburst.
The 23-year-old tackle was placed on injured reserve the next day because of his back issue. Simmons will miss games against the Seahawks, Denver Broncos, New York Jets, and Atlanta Falcons. The earliest he can return is Week 11 against the Arizona Cardinals on Nov. 22.
Simmons has played in just eight of 22 games since the Chiefs drafted him 32nd overall two seasons ago.
In his absence, undrafted free agent Kahlil Benson has stepped into the starting left tackle spot. He’s played brilliantly, allowing just 12 pressures and five hurries on 321 offensive snaps without allowing a sack.
