The New England Patriots' 24-19 win over the Dolphins in Miami last week moved the team up to 5-3 on the season, having now won four of their last five games, including a crucial win over the division-leading Buffalo Bills in Week 4. They're still a couple of games behind the Bills, but considering they've been devastated by injuries across the offense, the Patriots have to like how the team has responded heading into their Week 9 matchup against the Green Bay Packers.

On Friday, however, one of their top players revealed some concerning health news. Second-year running back TreVeyon Henderson released a statement revealing that he had recently experienced an unexpected medical emergency involving unexplained neurological symptoms. The 24-year-old back spent several days in the hospital undergoing extensive medical testing.

Although he said the results were positive and reassuring, doctors have yet to determine what caused the symptoms. Henderson added that the situation affected his strength, coordination, and some physical functions. He's now working with specialists and physical therapists as he focuses on his recovery and long-term health.

The Patriots selected Henderson 38th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft out of Ohio State, and he made an immediate impact as a rookie, rushing for 911 yards and nine touchdowns on 180 carries (5.1 yards per carry), along with 221 receiving yards and one receiving score. He quickly became one of the most explosive running backs in the league, and the perfect complement to Rhamondre Stevenson in New England's backfield.

However, his 2026 season hasn't gone as expected. Through six games, he's recorded just 203 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown on 52 carries (3.9 yards per carry), along with 45 receiving yards on five catches. Henderson missed the season opener with an ankle injury, later dealt with a high ankle sprain, and was sidelined with an illness ahead of the Miami game. Now, he's dealing with a new and what seems to be a far more serious health situation.

Henderson hasn't disclosed an official diagnosis, and the cause of his neurological symptoms remains unknown, so it's hard to speculate too much about what this will mean for his season. Given that he says the symptoms affected his strength and coordination, it seems likely he'll miss Sunday's game against the Packers. For the Patriots, the top priority will be ensuring Henderson is fully healthy and can safely return rather than rushing a young, ascending talent back into the lineup.
