What was supposed to be a week where the old New England Patriots dynasty was honored and a new one was built in the Bay Area turned out to be a disastrous week for Boston.

Robert Kraft and especially Bill Belichick were believed to be shoo-ins for the Hall of Fame after their multi-decade success with New England, but neither was voted in.

The team's golden quarterback during their peak, Tom Brady, began distancing himself from the Patriots again. Now a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders and broadcaster on FOX Sports, Brady said he had "no dog in the fight" and wasn't rooting for anyone in particular for Super Bowl LX between the Patriots and Seattle Seahawks.

The hits kept on coming during the lead-up to the big game, with star sophomore QB Drake Maye losing one of the closest MVP races of all time to Los Angeles Rams signal-caller Matthew Stafford. He lost out by one first-place vote, with the 17-year veteran getting the spotlight in San Francisco.

But that was all noise.

It didn't matter. Who cared whether the voters gave the individual award to Maye? Did it really matter if Brady cared about the Patriots anymore? Kraft didn't need a gold jacket; he just needed a seventh Super Bowl ring.

Then the Super Bowl actually happened.

More news: Tom Brady Makes His NFL MVP Choice Between Matthew Stafford, Drake Maye

Drake Maye looked as lost as any quarterback has ever been in the championship game through the first three quarters before showing life in the final period of play. The offense was stale than two-month-old bread. New England's defense did its best to bend but not break, but the lack of support from the offense tired them out.

By the end, millions of fans around the world were lambasting the final game of the year, calling it 'boring,' 'the worst ever,' and for the Patriots, 'humiliating' to the highest level.

While the Patriots arrived early to the dance and weren't expected to make the Super Bowl so soon after a rebuild, it won't be a night any of the players in their locker room will want to remember for years to come.

Not until they can right the wrongs of what could be the worst week ever in New England Patriots history.
