The Philadelphia Eagles will look to return to the mountaintop after a disappointing ending to last season. This time, Sean Mannion will call the shots for the offense, becoming the sixth playcaller of the Jalen Hurts era.
Hurts is coming off a down year under Kevin Patullo, but there are no doubts about his status as the undisputed starter for Nick Sirianni's team.
Nevertheless, that doesn't mean they'll keep throwing money and years at him. According to ESPN insiders Jeremy Fowler and Tim McManus, Eagles CEO Jeffrey Lurie is in no rush to give him another contract extension:

"Those things take, over time, we never would discuss [extension talks]. He's in the middle of a new contract now," Lurie said.

That said, it's not like Lurie isn't a fan of his quarterback. If anything, he believes he's one of the most underrated players in the game right now:
"MVP of the Super Bowl 13 months ago, should have been MVP of the Super Bowl right before that against Kansas City the first time. Exceptional. So dedicated," Lurie said. "I think you probably know, I spend a lot of time with Jalen as I do with most quarterbacks, and he's incredibly dedicated to the game, to winning, and being a huge winner. I love everything about him."
Hurts got a five-year, $255 million contract in 2023. He still has three years left on his deal, with a potential out after the 2027 season that would result in a $24.3 million dead cap hit for the Eagles, according to Spotrac.
He's been a polarizing player for most of his career, and while some may not be sold on his game, his résumé is pretty flawless. Still, anything can change drastically in the NFL, and nothing is guaranteed until the player puts pen to paper.
