The Kansas City Chiefs have managed to win games without getting much from their wide receivers, but Sunday night showed how far that can take them.

Kansas City suffered its first loss of the season in a 20-3 defeat to the Seattle Seahawks — a game where quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for just 165 yards with an interception.

The team’s top three leading pass-catchers were tight ends Noah Gray (three catches, 44 yards) and Travis Kelce (four catches, 44 yards) plus running back Kenneth Walker (four catches, 21 yards), and receivers Xavier Worthy, Justin Watson, Cyrus Allen, and Andrew Armstrong combined for only six catches and 39 yards.

Injuries are part of the problem. Top wideout Rashee Rice hasn’t played since injuring his hamstring in Week 4, and Tyquan Thornton — the team’s best deep threat — is on injured reserve after dislocating his ankle.

That’s why the Chiefs have reportedly been working the phones ahead of the Nov. 10 trade deadline trying to acquire a competent receiver to give Mahomes some help.

“You know, they have been calling around, and I don’t think it would be a surprise to see them continue to attempt to add a wide receiver before the trade deadline,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on “The Pat McAfee Show.”

Kansas City has recently been linked to Jacksonville’s Brian Thomas Jr. and Indianapolis’ Josh Downs, who requested a trade on Wednesday. But ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler thinks there’s one former Pro Bowler who could make sense for the Chiefs — and he's gaining popularity as a potential Chiefs trade target.

Fowler and Matt Bowen recently named the top 25 players to watch ahead of the NFL trade deadline on Nov. 10, and they linked the Chiefs to Cleveland Browns WR Jerry Jeudy.

"The Browns are not actively sending out feelers on Jeudy, but they would at least consider a substantial offer," Fowler wrote. "Key word here is 'substantial,' though. I'm not sure, say, a fourth-round pick would move anyone in Cleveland, for example. Jeudy is part of the Browns' three-receiver sets and the veteran in that room for a good team in the playoff hunt. That dynamic diminishes his chances of being dealt. But as always, teams are looking for receiver help.

Jeudy is just two years removed from his career-best 90-catch, 1,229-yard season in 2024. This season though, he has just 16 catches for a Browns offense that clearly favors rookie first-rounder KC Concepcion and rookie second-rounder Denzel Boston.

The 27-year-old Jeudy is a strong route-runner who can separate at multiple levels who would give Mahomes something he hasn’t had since Week 4: a receiver who doesn’t disappear into coverage.

The only potential hold-up is Cleveland’s asking price. The 5-2 Browns are surprisingly sitting atop the AFC North, which means Kansas City will likely have to offer something worthwhile to pry Jeudy loose from a team that has a strong chance of making the playoffs (reports indicate it would take a Day 2 pick to get the ball rolling).
