The Las Vegas Raiders used the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft to select quarterback Fernando Mendoza to be the future of their franchise.
However, they have been since rolling with veteran Kirk Cousins, and they revealed that may be the case for a little while longer.
According to NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Raiders are not interested in trading Cousins and plan to keep sticking with him until they believe Mendoza is ready.

It certainly helps that the Raiders have not received any trade inquiries about Cousins, but their decision to not even entertain any potential offers is a bit surprising given the investment they have made into Mendoza.
Mendoza is coming off a historic season at Indiana, where he threw for 3,535 yards, 41 touchdowns and just six interceptions while leading the Hoosiers to a College Football Playoff National Championship.
Meanwhile, Cousins is likely nearing the end of his NFL career at 38 and is quite costly after signing a five-year contract worth up to $172 million this offseason.

Cousins has been playing pretty well, though. During the Raiders 4-4 start to the season, he has thrown for 2,124 yards, 19 touchdowns and five interceptions.
It is also smart to not throw Mendoza into the fire until he's ready, but at some point, the Raiders are going to have to see what they have in the rookie. Until then, it seems like it will be Cousins leading the way.
A fourth-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, Cousins has thrown for 46,824 yards, 317 touchdowns and 136 interceptions in his professional career.
