The Los Angeles Rams have started to find their footing after a difficult opening stretch, winning back-to-back games to improve to 4-4. They first secured a big 35-21 road victory over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7, and then followed that up with a convincing 24-9 win over the Los Angeles Chargers last weekend. They still have more work to do if they want to become genuine Super Bowl contenders, but momentum is starting to build for Sean McVay's squad.
The Rams could get another massive boost on Sunday too. According to NFL insiders Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport, Myles Garrett is on track to be activated from Injured Reserve ahead of their Week 9 matchup against the Washington Commanders. He returned to practice Wednesday after missing the last seven games, although he remained a limited participant on Thursday. The Rams opened his 21-day practice window earlier this week, giving them an opportunity to activate him once he's ready. The latest report suggests that could finally happen this weekend.

The Rams traded for Garrett in June, sending Pro Bowl pass rusher Jared Verse and multiple high draft picks to Cleveland in exchange for the two-time Defensive Player of the Year. However, his first game with Los Angeles couldn't have gone worse. He played 40 defensive snaps in the season opener against San Francisco, but didn't record a single sack or tackle. Garrett later admitted that his knee was bothering him, and after undergoing surgery, he was placed on IR.
Getting Garrett back would be huge for the Rams, who need another reliable pass rusher next to Byron Young, who already has 4.5 sacks this year. Aaron Donald hasn't lived up to the hype yet in his return to the NFL, and Kobie Turner remains on IR with a groin injury. We also haven't truly got to see Garrett and Donald play together yet, giving fans another reason to get excited for Sunday.

At 4-4, the Rams might not feel like the Super Bowl favorites they entered the year as, but there's still time to turn it around. They're third in the NFC West, behind the 6-1 49ers and 4-4 Seahawks, both of whom they'll play again later this season. If the Rams can start stacking wins and get healthy by the time those crucial matchups roll around, they can build serious momentum toward the end of the year and into the postseason.
After Sunday against the Commanders in Washington, the Rams will face the Cardinals in Arizona before home games against the Packers and Chiefs. Getting Garrett back now could be the spark this team needs to go on a run.
