Rule No. 1 in sports: Don’t make certain fanbases go feral.

Certain bases come to mind: Philadelphia Eagles, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Indiana Fever, you know, the usual suspects.

Another one on the list? The Baltimore Ravens – especially when a Raven is the one doing the trash talking. Well, somewhat trash talking? Okay… let’s just say someone lacks self-awareness.

While speaking with reporters on Thursday, defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver made a bold comment to the Baltimore fan base about bringing more energy to the games following the team’s 35-13 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

“Our fans need to understand, like, ‘hey, sometimes we need you to pump life into us too,’” Weaver said.

As one can imagine, this didn’t sit well with fans on social media.

“Well Weaver, when you price the true fans out of going to a game and then also have [expletive] performances in the last 7-8 home games, it’s hard to be excited and ‘pump life into you’ maybe give us a reason to,” one person posted on X.

“Disagree,” another said. “Give us a reason to cheer. It’s exhausting losing my voice on every 3rd and long for it to be converted on a missed tackle.”

“Maybe winning more than one home game in almost a year,” someone noted. “We see the collapse coming. NTM, losing brings out the obnoxious opposing fans.”

“How do you expect fans to stay hyped when current player culture is to plop on the ground and act like pouty little defeatist [expletive] whenever they have a bad drive?” one person asked.

“Ravens haven’t scored in the second half in 2 games (8 quarters) and this dude wants fans to have more energy,” someone said. “You lucky you have fans in the second half. I had you a dollar and you give me 2 quarters and you want (applauding)?”

“Just play like a Raven, then you’ll hear the fans,” someone posted.

...

Baltimore led 13-0 at halftime against Cincinnati before the Bengals went on to score 35 unanswered points during the second half. The musical score playing in the background of that last half? Ravens fans booing along with the sound of feet dashing from M&T Bank Stadium.
