Training camp is officially underway for several NFL teams while others will be easing into camp throughout the next week.

The Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers kick off the 2026 preseason with their Hall of Fame Game clash on Thursday, Aug. 6 on NBC, and Week 1 of the preseason officially kicks off the following week on Aug. 13.

As we count down the days until the start of the NFL regular season — which kicks off with a Super Bowl LX rematch between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots on “Sunday Night Football” on Sept. 9 — we continue to look at key offseason storylines for each of the league’s 32 teams.

This week, we’re looking at the players most in danger of being cut during the preseason, and we’ve arrived at the Green Bay Packers.

Chris Brooks, RB

Starter Josh Jacobs is creeping up on 30 (the perceived cliff running backs fall off later in their career), and Green Bay has prioritized getting a solid backup on the roster to help reduce his wear and tear.

Marshawn Lloyd was supposed to be that guy, but injuries have hampered the start of his career. But he’s too young and talented to give up on just yet. Chris Brooks Pierre Strong Jr., Damien Martinez, and Jaden Nixon are all expected to battle it out for a roster spot, and Brooks could be the odd man out.

He’s never rushed for more than 183 yards in any season and he’s only scored one career touchdown.

Green Bay Packers CB Carrington Valentine

The Packers also made a concerted effort to revamp their cornerback depth this offseason too, using their first draft pick on South Carolina CB Brandon Cisse, and signing Benjamin St-Juste in free agency.

Cisse will get every chance to win a job in camp, and St-Juste’s body of work over his career makes him a solid asset in coverage. Valentine allowed six touchdowns in coverage last year (second-most on the team) and QBs had a 103.9 passer rating when targeting him. It wouldn’t be surprising if he ends up being a surprise cut.

Lucas Havrisik, K

Havrisik hasn’t seen much playing time in the two years he’s been in the NFL. He made 15 of his 20 field goal attempts in 2023 with the Los Angeles Rams, and all four of his FG attempts last year with the Packers.

Given his 79.2 career field goal percentage, the door is open for rookie Trey Smack to steal the job out from under him. At Florida, Smack converted 82.8% of his kicks (53 of 64 attempts), and he was 10 of 13 from beyond 50 yards.
