The Pittsburgh Steelers won a defensive battle against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1, securing a 20-13 final score at home.
Veteran pass rusher T.J. Watt was the hero of the Steelers' regular-season debut. With a 13-10 lead over the Falcons early in the fourth quarter, the 2021 NFL Defensive Player of the Year leaped into the air and intercepted a pass just after it left the hand of Atlanta quarterback Cooper Rush. He returned the interception 33 yards for a touchdown to extend Pittsburgh's lead.
Watt also recorded two sacks, getting off to a great start in his 10th professional campaign.

The NFL recognized Watt for his impressive play on Wednesday, announcing him as the AFC Defensive Player of the Week.
Watt explained his pick-six during an appearance on the "Not Just Football" show, hosted by his teammate Cam Heyward.
"I don't know, it's all instincts. I wish I had some fancy answer for you, but I just threw my hands up. Anytime it's a checkdown like that, they're not throwing it incredibly hard," Watt said, via SteelersDepot. "So, I'm just trying to throw my hands up, and it just stuck."

Watt and the Steelers will look to continue their positive momentum into Sunday's Week 2 matchup against the New England Patriots.
