The Minnesota Vikings' offseason has taken an unfortunate and dramatic turn. Star wide receiver Jordan Addison was arrested on Friday for suspicion of DUI.

According to a report from NFL.com, "At approximately 11:06 p.m. PT on Friday, the Los Angeles Communications Center was advised that there was a disabled vehicle blocking lanes on I-105. When a California Highway Patrol officer arrived to the scene, a white Rolls-Royce was spotted with Addison asleep behind the wheel. Following a DUI investigation, Addison was arrested at 11:36 p.m. He was then released from custody Saturday at 1:36 a.m."

"We are aware of Jordan Addison's arrest this past Friday and are currently gathering more information regarding the incident," the Vikings said in a statement, which was obtained by NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero.

Addison has not yet received punishment for the incident, though depending on the investigation made by the Vikings and the NFL, the young receiver could face a suspension and fine for violating any of the league's conduct policies.

This isn't the first time that Addison has also gotten into trouble when behind the wheel, as he was cited for reckless driving and speeding in July 2023.

What makes this arrest and the alleged alcohol use even more tragic is that Addison's high school teammate was recently killed in a car accident in which alcohol allegedly played a part.

Reports came in on July 6 that rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson had been killed in a car accident along with Isaiah Hazel and Anthony Lytton Jr., who were also former high school teammates with Jackson.

Jackson, Lytton, and Hazel were in a Dodge Charger together when they were struck by another driver in an Infiniti Q50. The driver of the Infiniti Q50 allegedly had been under the influence when the accident occurred. All three young football players lost their lives as a result of the accident.

Jackson was taken with the No. 108 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and was slated to earn a starting job as a cornerback for the Vikings.

Addison was drafted by the Vikings at No. 23 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, after having a successful career playing for the USC Trojans. In 2023, Addison finished the season with 911 yards and 10 touchdowns.

The NFL might dole out a significant punishment for Addison, which could derail the start of the season for the upcoming second-year pro. He would theoretically still be able to practice during training camp, but there is no telling if the league would give him a lengthy suspension.
