The Minnesota Vikings are very noncommittal about quarterback J.J. McCarthy, underscored by Minnesota's signing veteran quarterback Kyler Murray in March.

McCarthy, the Vikings' 10th overall pick in 2024, and Murray, the Arizona Cardinals' No. 1 overall pick in 2019, will compete for QB1, but the consensus is that Murray would only choose to sign with Minnesota if he knew he'd start next season.

But quarterback competition is for this summer. In the meantime, McCarthy made the ultimate commitment off the field.

On Sunday, McCarthy announced that he and Katya Kuropas, his longtime partner, got married at Zadun Los Cabos Ritz-Carlton on April 11. The happy couple jointly posted an Instagram carousel with photos from their wedding, including a shot with their infant son.

High school sweethearts McCarthy and Kuropas announced their engagement in January 2024, shortly after McCarthy won the national championship as the quarterback at the University of Michigan. They welcomed their first child, Rome Micah McCarthy, last September.

In fact, it was the best week of McCarthy's 2025 NFL season. After missing his entire rookie season due to a torn meniscus, McCarthy made his first start for the Vikings against the Chicago Bears on "Monday Night Football" on Sept. 8. He looked overwhelmed early, but led a fourth-quarter comeback to win 27-24. Three days later, he became a dad.

From a purely football perspective, it was all downhill from there.

McCarthy missed seven games total due to a high-ankle sprain, concussion, and hand injury, and he never found a rhythm when under center. He finished last season with 1,632 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions on 57.6% completion. He also posted four rushing touchdowns and six fumbles. McCarthy's QBR (35.6) ranked 35th among all qualified quarterbacks.

But, as previously noted, all that football stuff can wait.
