Scottie Scheffler has matched one of Tiger Woods’ most prestigious PGA Tour records, winning the PGA Tour Player of the Year award for the fourth consecutive season in 2025. The announcement was made by PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp, who, according to ESPN, praised Scheffler’s “consistent level of success” and described his achievements as “nothing short of spectacular."
Scheffler’s latest win solidifies his place as the first player since Woods to win the Jack Nicklaus Award four years in a row, joining the 15-time major winner in rarefied air on the PGA Tour. However, it's worth noting that Woods did not stop there. He went on to win the Player of the Year award for five consecutive seasons (1999-2003) and holds the all-time record with 11 total wins in his career.
Scheffler, 29, enjoyed a dominant year, capturing six victories, including the PGA Championship and The Open Championship. He topped the PGA Tour in 17 statistical categories, such as tee-to-green precision and official earnings, surpassing $27 million in a single season.

Despite an early-season hand injury that sidelined him for nearly two months, Scheffler found his rhythm and finished strong, winning majors with commanding leads. According to ESPN, Scheffler reflected on his season, praising the consistency he had achieved.
“I think overall the thing that I’m most proud of when I look at the last couple of years is just consistency. It's not very easy to just show up and finish in the top 10 each week,” he said, adding that his recovery and return to form before the Masters were highlights.
Scheffler’s streak of success has drawn inevitable comparisons to Woods, not just for the Player of the Year award but also for his world ranking points and major championship wins. He is the second No. 1-ranked player since the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) began in 1986 to win The Open Championship, following Woods. Scheffler has also surpassed Woods’ mark for most OWGR points in the first half of a year, earning 583 points from January to June 2024. His career earnings now exceed $90 million, making him the third-highest earner in PGA Tour history and closing in on Woods’ record.
Scheffler often downplays direct comparisons to Woods, calling them “silly,” but his sustained excellence and statistical dominance have led many to believe he is achieving Tiger-like feats in professional golf. His combination of major wins, Player of the Year awards, and world ranking points puts him on a trajectory that few have matched, let alone surpassed, since Woods’ prime years.
The PGA Tour also awarded the Rookie of the Year Award to South African Aldrich Potgieter, winner of the 2025 Rocket Classic.
