Nikki Bella's WrestleMania 42 status is now in serious doubt after a new update painted a more concerning picture of the ankle injury she suffered on SmackDown.
Following the March 27 episode of SmackDown, where Nikki was seen limping and being attended to by a doctor after a post-match brawl, a new visual development has emerged. Nikki was recently spotted alongside Brie Bella while recording a future episode of The Nikki and Brie Show, and she was visibly wearing a walking boot. The sighting makes the injury appear significantly more serious than initially indicated.
According to PWInsider, the injury occurred during an exchange involving Charlotte Flair on SmackDown. "For those who have asked about WWE Hall of Famer Nikki Bella after she went to the floor and didn't return during a brawl on Smackdown, PWInsider.com is told that she suffered an ankle injury. The belief among those we spoke with is that Bella rolled her left ankle during an exchange with Charlotte Flair."

The walking boot, typically used to stabilize and protect the ankle while allowing limited mobility, suggests the injury is significant enough to require support during the recovery process. Ankle injuries treated with walking boots can take anywhere from several weeks to longer to heal depending on the severity, and with WrestleMania 42 now just weeks away on April 18-19, the window for Nikki to return in time is narrowing.

The timing is particularly painful given the significance of what the Bella Twins are chasing. The pair revealed earlier this month that they signed two-year WWE contracts beginning at the Royal Rumble, which they intend to be their final run before retirement. Winning the Women's Tag Team Championship has been identified as the top goal of that final chapter, with Nikki describing winning the titles as mothers as one of the most meaningful things they could accomplish in their careers.
No official word on Nikki's availability for WrestleMania 42 has been provided by WWE. With the walking boot now confirmed and the clock ticking, the company may be forced to adjust its plans depending on how quickly she responds to treatment.
