The New York Yankees are on the cusp of clinching a postseason spot, with a chance to win the American League East as well. However, they have to take care of business this week first.

The Yankees figure to clinch a wild card spot early this week, but entered Tuesday trailing the Toronto Blue Jays by just two games in the division standings. With just six games left to play, the Yankees will have to play well and the Blue Jays will need to drop some games if the Yankees want a chance at winning the division.

There will be plenty of scoreboard watching for the Yankees this week. The Yankees will face the Chicago White Sox and Baltimore Orioles to end the season. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays will take on the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays. Aaron Boone spoke on the week ahead.

“It’s going to be a wild week, for sure,” manager Aaron Boone said per the New York Post's Greg Joyce.

The Yankees can start thinking about clinching scenarios and postseason rotations, but winning the division could set the team up for a deep October run. The Blue Jays have the best record in the American League. The Yankees have the second-best record, but are currently in a wild card spot thanks to their spot in the AL East standings.

Winning the division could secure the Yankees a first-round bye. Going straight to the AL Division Series could set the Yankees up for an easier path to the Fall Classic. The Blue Jays are playing the Red Sox, who still have an outside chance at wining the division. The Red Sox are not going to be an easy opponent for the Blue Jays.

The door is open for the Yankees to win the division. However, they figure to get a small celebration first for clinching a postseason berth.
