'Star Fox' Spinoff Rumored in the Works From Retro Studios

A new rumor suggests that a new Star Fox game is in the works, but not in the way fans of the franchise would expect.

According to a Eurogamer report, Retro Studios is currently developing a Star Fox spinoff that will have players race instead of fight in space. The rumor first popped up on reddit, when user DasVergeben posted details on the Retro Studios' Star Fox racing game, describing it "like Diddy Kong Racing mixed with F-Zero." The tentative name of the rumored game is Star Fox Grand Prix.

Shortly after the reddit post, a logo for Star Fox Grand Prix appeared on 4Chan. IGN received a logo from an unnamed source as well.

Information from Eurogamer's sources has lined up with what was posted online, but the outlet did not confirm Star Fox Grand Prix as an official title.

Retro Studios is best known for the superb Metroid Prime Trilogy for GameCube and Wii. The studio has also brought Donkey Kong Country Returns and Tropical Freeze to Wii U and Nintendo Switch.

The last Star Fox game was Star Fox Zero for the Nintendo Wii U, which met with less than stellar reviews.

Nintendo provided Newsweek with the following comment on the matter: "We have nothing to announce on this topic."

Nintendo's E3 2018 presentation has been the subject of almost daily rumors and speculation. The first claimed that Super Smash Bros. and Pokémon will be the focal points of Nintendo's E3 booth this year. Then there was a GameFaqs list that predicted more details about Nintendo's Online Service, but included a ton of information that didn't seem credible.

Nintendo's E3 2018 presentation will stream on Tuesday, June 12 at 12 p.m. EDT, so if there is official confirmation, fans will likely have to wait until then.

In the meantime, let us know what you think of a racing game in the Star Fox universe and whether you would rather have a traditional F-Zero title in the comments section below.
