'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Set for December Premiere in Los Angeles

Disney and Lucasfilm will unveil forthcoming Star Wars sequel Star Wars: The Force Awakens at a world premiere in Los Angeles on December 14, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film, the first of three in a new Star Wars trilogy, will then go on to premiere in London followed by other events around the world, according to the website.

Disney will attempt to keep the plot undisclosed by limiting the number of screenings for press, cast and crew in advance of the premiere.

The Force Awakens, directed by J.J. Abrams, who was responsible for the two Star Trek films in 2009 and 2013, is expected to become 2015's highest grossing film, according to The Guardian newspaper. It is also predicted to generate this year's highest global opening-weekend box-office sales. Jurassic World made the most money in an opening weekend so far this year with $524 million in June.

The Force Awakens is set to be released on December 17 in the U.K. and December 18 in the U.S. Alongside newcomers John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Oscar Isaac, it will feature the original stars of the 1977 film, Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill.
