Will There Be Another Season of 'Stargirl'?

Season 2 of Stargirl comes to an end on Tuesday, November 2, and fans are no doubt keen to know when it will return.

The CW's superhero show focuses on its eponymous character Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger) and her time with the second incarnation of the Justice Society of America (JSA).

Based on the DC comics, the show is part of the channel's Arrowverse alongside The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, and Superman & Lois.

Here is everything we know so far about Season 3.

Has Season 3 of Stargirl been officially confirmed?

In May 2021, The CW gave fans the good news that there would be another season of Stargirl, while also announcing the fate of Kung Fu.

At the time, network CEO Mark Pedowitz said in a statement: "We are beyond proud to continue to share the stories of Nicky Shen and Courtney Whitmore, two strong, powerful young women at the center of this new generation of hit shows for The CW.

"While each boasts remarkable talent on both sides of the camera, Kung Fu and DC's Stargirl have not only treated fans to some visually stunning action and high-flying heroics, but they also both strike very powerful emotional chords as they delve into the family dynamics and personal relationships at their core, and we are so excited to see what happens next."

The announcement came months in advance of Season 2 of Stargirl airing on The CW, so fans will have some time to wait until it returns for a third outing.

What has the cast said about Season 3 of Stargirl?

Bassinger has teased what fans can expect from a third season, telling Collider that showrunner Geoff Johns had planned for six seasons already.

She said: "I've been hearing about the third season since I booked the show, which is fun. I'm always excited for the next thing.

"But more recently, I had a deeper conversation with him about the whole storyline of Season 3 and I am freaking pumped."

The actor added that there were slow-burning plots that would be focused on in the forthcoming season, saying: "Obviously, those things are always subject to change, but I think there'll be a lot of payoff in Season 3."

Joel McHale, who plays Starman, also revealed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on October 2 that he was being promoted to a series regular in Season 3.

He said: "In the first episode of the first season, my character dies. But now I'm back! So hold onto your hat or your cosmic staff, [which] is what my character holds."

Stargirl's Season 2 finale airs on Tuesday, November 2 at 8 p.m. ET. Seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on The CW app and website.
