'Station 19' Season 5: Everything You Need to Know About the 'Grey's Anatomy' Crossover

Station 19 returns for a fifth season Thursday as the Seattle-based firefighters continue to balance their personal and professional lives.

The TV show has taken on a life of its own since spinning off from its Grey's Anatomy origins in 2018. Audiences are continuing to discover Station 19 as its viewership has increased since the first two seasons, implying that the show could be here for the long haul.

Season 5 of Station 19 begins Thursday with a special crossover event with sister show Grey's Anatomy. Here's everything you need to know about the premiere on ABC.

What Happens in the Latest Crossover Event?

Thursday's crossover event marks the season premiere of both Season 5 of Station 19 and Season 18 of Grey's Anatomy.

The voiceover for the crossover trailer promises to answer all of the questions left lingering from last season's cliffhangers. At the end of Season 4, Maya and Carina's wedding was the center of attention while Jack and Inara broke up because she's moving away. Travis told Emmett he wants to be more than friends before they shared a kiss. Dean was going to tell Vic how he feels but unfortunately saw her patching things up with Theo. Andy and Sullivan's marriage was on the rocks too after Sullivan decided to try to oust Bishop as the firehouse chief.

At the start of the crossover episode, the trailer shows the Station 19 team called to a park where the firefighters are forced to transfer a patient to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital on foot before an unexpected and violent explosion forces the team to jump for cover.

Back at the hospital, the Grey's Anatomy team attempts experimental medical techniques, deals with their relationship drama, while Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) has to deal with a returning person from her past.

Who Stars in 'Station 19' Season 5?

The core cast all return for Season 5 of Station 19. Jaina Lee Ortiz (Andy Herrera), Jason George (Dr. Ben Warren), Grey Damon (Jack Gibson) and Barrett Doss (Victoria Hughes) all return.

Completing the lineup of characters who've been part of the show since the very start include Jay Hayden (Travis Montgomery), Okieriete Onaodowan (Dean Miller), Danielle Savre (Maya Bishop) and Boris Kodjoe (Robert Sullivan).

Regulars Stefania Spampinato (Dr. Carina DeLuca) and Lachlan Buchanan (Emmett Dixon) also appear while Grey's Anatomy regular Chandra Wilson (Dr. Miranda Bailey) is set to make a number of appearances in Season 5. Carlos Miranda (Theo Ruiz) appeared in Season 4 and is set make the role more regular in the upcoming season as well.

When Is 'Station 19' on TV?

The crossover episode serves as the season premiere of Station 19 and starts on ABC at 8/7c on Thursday, September 30, 2021. The premiere episode is titled "Phoenix from the Flame."

From there Episode 2 "Can't Feel My Face" airs on Thursday October 7 while Episode 3 "Too Darn Hot" is on October 14.

Shonda Rhimes, who created Grey's Anatomy, serves as an executive producer on Station 19 alongside Betsy Beers, Krista Vernoff, Paris Barclay and Ellen Pompeo. Stacy McKee created Station 19 and also serves as an executive producer.
