Texas Man Let 13-year-old Stepdaughter Drive to Get Ice Cream Because He Was Drunk, Police Say

A man has been accused of being so under the influence of alcohol that he allowed his 13-year-old stepdaughter to drive the pair to get ice cream.

Javier Martinez-Aguilar, 42, was pulled over after the SUV the pair were driving nearly crashed into a police car in Lubbock, Texas, according to a police report seen by KLBK.

The two were seen driving along the 2500 block of Avenue Q with Martinez-Aguilar in the passenger seat around 6:15 p.m. on September 9, the publication said.

The teen allegedly failed to give the police vehicle right of way, causing an officer to pull the car over for a traffic violation.

"She was driving her stepfather to get ice cream because he was drunk," an arrest report stated.

When the officer asked for a license and proof of insurance, the 13-year-old admitted she did not have a license.

Martinez-Aguilar struggled and fumbled to produce his own ID from his wallet, KCBD reports.

The 42-year-old was then assisted out of the vehicle where he was observed to be unsteady on his feet, according to the arresting officer.

Martinez-Aguilar was placed under arrest and the girl was picked up and taken home by her sister.

The Lubbock man was later indicted on a felony charge of endangering a child and criminal negligence, KXAN reports.

He was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center and later posted bond.

Newsweek reached out to Lubbock County Sheriff's Office for comment.

It's not the first bizarre arrest to have been made on the road this year.

A driver in Austin, Texas, was accused of hitting a pedestrian and continuing to drive to a nearby bar with the body in the passenger seat.

Paul Joseph Garcia, 24, drove for a half a mile with the mangled corpse in the front seat of his car before stopping at a bar, police alleged.

Garcia was driving his Ford Focus at high speed with his headlights off when he allegedly plowed into a person on Menchaca Road on February 15. The individual was pushing a shopping cart at the time.

The unidentified pedestrian was hit so hard that the body reportedly flew through the windshield of Garcia's car, landing in the passenger seat.

Instead of stopping, Garcia then allegedly drove a half-mile to a bar, where he stopped and went inside barefoot.

Body parts were later found both at the accident site and inside the vehicle, a police affidavit reported.

And in Wisconsin, Ernesto Martinez-Garnica, 42, was pulled over by police with a chicken on his shoulder after reports of erratic driving.

"We're on Howell, there's a guy behind us, and he has a—he's driving really reckless, but he has a hawk in his car. He's like just driving, holding it, he's swerving all over the road on Howell," a 911 caller said, as reported by WDJT News.

When police caught up with the vehicle, they noticed a chicken flapping around inside and empty beer cans in the vehicle.
