Stephen Colbert Accuses Trump of 'Witness Tampering in Real Time' With Michael Flynn 'Good Luck' Tweet

Stephen Colbert accused President Donald Trump for "witness tampering" during Tuesday night's segment of the Late Show. Colbert opened up the late-night show teasing former national security adviser Michael Flynn's sentencing over Russian collusion, which Trump tweeted about earlier on Tuesday.

The president sent Flynn well wishes just ahead of his court appearance, which Colbert thought was pretty shady of him. Colbert started his opening monologue ripping the president for ruining the lives of everyone he knows.

"I am beginning to think Donald Trump destroys everyone he touches. He is like the King Midas of crap," Colbert joked.

He went on to read Trump's tweet to Flynn with his best Trump impression: "Good luck today in court to General Michael Flynn. Will be interesting to see what he has to say, despite tremendous pressure being put on him, about Russian Collusion in our great and, obviously, highly successful political campaign. There was no collusion!"

Colbert then shared his thoughts of Trump's tweet and said, "I'm pretty sure that's just witness tampering in real time."

The comedian continued his Trump mockery and—using the president's voice—said, "Good luck to Michael Flynn on keeping his trap shut. Your son and I will be watching your testimony, and then we're going to feed my alligators. They normally eat rats and rat children."

Flynn, who worked on Trump's presidential campaign, was charged with lying to the FBI about his contact with a Russian ambassador during Trump's transition to the White House. In cooperation with special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation on Russian involvement in the 2016 election, Flynn pleaded guilty in December 2017 and has given "substantial assistance" in the ongoing investigation since.

Flynn's sentencing was delayed to further allow him to cooperate in Mueller's probe. However, the delay didn't come before U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan ripped into him during court for his "very serious" offense. "Arguably, you sold your country out," Sullivan stated.

Flynn is expected to be officially sentenced sometime in March 2019.
