Stephen Colbert Performs Magic to Help Penn Jillette Recall If Trump Said N-Word

Did President Donald Trump use the n-word? Discussions abound on whether the accusation by former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman that Trump uttered the racial slur is true.

And The Late Show host Stephen Colbert appears so determined to get to the bottom of the matter, he's even employed a bit of magic to refresh the memory of celebrity magician Penn Jilette, who said that he had heard Trump use offensive language during the filming of Celebrity Apprentice.

But when Colbert asked him about it, Jilette said that he was not a reliable enough narrator to explain the language used by Trump, suggesting he couldn't remember the details.

"If Donald Trump had not become president, I would tell you all the stories," Jilette said in the interview with Colbert on Wednesday night.

"But the stakes are now high, and I am an unreliable narrator, so I can emotionally tell you things that happened racially, sexually…when I was in the room with Donald Trump, and I guarantee you that I will get details wrong," he said.

But his hesitation didn't deter Colbert—who suggested the magician simply needed a spell to help him remember what had happened.

"Penn, I want you to think back on that night, OK? Picture the word that Donald Trump said," Colbert said, performing a card trick for the magician.

"Picture the word he said… Do you have the word in mind? Is this your word?" he asked, pulling out a card with the letter N on it.

The White House has denied the allegation from Manigault Newman that the president used racial slurs—with counselor to the president Kellyanne Conway also adding that Manigault Newman had never complained about such language during her White House tenure.

"I have never a single time heard him use a racial slur about anyone. I also never heard Omarosa complain that he had done that, and so the only thing that's changed is that she's now selling books," Conway said in an interview with ABC's This Week on Sunday, speaking about Manigault Newman's book, Unhinged: An Insider's Account of the Trump White House, which was released on Tuesday.

Trump himself has also blasted the suggestion from Manigault Newman, calling her a "dog," which prompted a backlash from numerous quarters.
