Strip Club Manager Who Brings Baby Son to Work Sparks Viral Debate

One young mom has received an outpouring of response after revealing that her baby son accompanies her to her job as a strip club manager. Since TikToker @whatsuarez shared a video on the subject last month, it has since gone viral, amassing over one million views and nearly 207,000 likes.

The video, found here, has prompted a mixed response: while the majority of commenters appear supportive of the TikToker's parenting, some have used the clip to discuss the lack of viable childcare options afforded to working parents in the U.S.

According to the Center for American Progress, the "United States was facing a child care crisis before the pandemic began, but the ongoing health and economic impacts of the coronavirus have brought the child care industry to the brink of collapse."

"Parents are often unable to find a child care program with an open spot for their infant or toddler," added the report. "If there are available options, they typically are not affordable. Infant child care costs families an average of $11,000 per year and is more than the price of public college in 33 states."

Given these conditions, parents, particularly mothers, are forced to either spend huge sums on childcare, cut back on work hours, or, if possible, bring their child with them to work—as @whatsuarez does.

The viral video featured several snippets from videos of @whatsuarez's son at the club where his mom works. The clips show what looks like a very happy baby: he smiles, sleeps, plays, and is held by the club's employees.

Response from the video was largely positive, and many commented that the baby boy looks healthy and well-taken care of. However, some took issue with the unconventional arrangement.

To provide additional context, @whatsuarez posted a follow-up clip the next day. "Hey guys, it's the horrible strip club mom," said the TikToker, sarcastically addressing unsupportive viewers.

She explained in the clip that while she used to dance at the strip club, she's been working as their manager since she had her son.

She then points out two doors on either side of her office area, explaining that they are locked when her son is at work. She added that he never goes on the club floor when customers are present and is always supervised.

"He's not allowed inside the club until all the customers are gone and all alcohol is pulled," she said.

"Strippers are mothers. And they love," she added. "They love hard, like they love their own children."

Many commenters vocalized support for the mom's attitude and parenting style, with countless saying that the TikToker's coworkers—the club's dancers—will keep him safe and teach him to be respectful of women.

"He's got a big family of women, a lot of whom are mothers or aunts themselves, to love and watch over him," wrote

"He has a group of ladies who adore him and look out for him," echoed @alainabourrel. "It takes a community. He will grow up with respect for woman [sic] and their bodies."

Others, however, argued that little kids have "no reason" to be spending time at a strip club, even if their parent works there.

"This is just disturbing and y'all supporting this are just as wrong," wrote @kayburs.

To those commenters, others fired back, noting that childcare is inaccessible for many working women. "Y'all need to stop acting like everyone can get [trustworthy] childcare," commented @martaperfection.

Added @daesha_duh: "I think it's time people in society learn that some moms don't have anyone to babysit their kid[s] while they work."

Newsweek was unable to reach @whatsuarez for comment.
