Teen Killed in Class When Car Crashes into Her Home During Online Lesson

Tributes have been paid to the teenage girl who died after a car crashed into her home while she was attending school online.

Aramis Mora, 16, was taking part in a virtual class on Monday, December 14, when a car lost control and slammed into the side of her home and into her bedroom in Greenville, Texas.

Mora, a senior at Greenville High School, was killed as a result of the crash.

Her brother Gustavo Mora paid his respects to the teenager who was just a few months short of her 17th birthday.

"She was hardworking. She was really, really smart. She was in the honor society," he told CBSDFW.

"She was so talented. I still can't believe this is happening," said Aramis' sister, Thelma Mora.

"I know she was happy," she added. "I know she had everything she wanted, but she deserved more. She deserved to leave more. And it's not fair."

The brother said he was asleep in another room and was awoken by the impact.

"Then I heard her call me," he added to NBCDFW. "Her door was just in the hallway so I just moved it out of the way and started yelling for her."

Gustavo Mora said he tried to get the driver of the vehicle to move back while he searched for his sister.

"We kept looking some more and I found her. She was right beside the truck and I checked her pulse and her breathing and she wasn't breathing anymore," Gustavo Mora said.

Greenville High School art teacher Billy Shiflet said the teenager was looking towards her future and choosing colleges.

"She was definitely just carving that path right where she needed to be and then something as traumatic and crazy and unreal is really what it is," Shiflet said.

A candlelit vigil for the teenage girl also took place on Thursday night outside the Mora family home.

In a statement, Greenville Independent School District said: "Aramis attended GISD schools her entire academic life, starting as a kindergartener at Crockett. She also attended Carver, Sixth Grade Center and Greenville Middle School.

"She was known for her sweet, calm spirit and for being an excellent student with a special interest in art and fashion design.

"Our prayers go out to Aramis, her family, and all those who love her. We will all miss this special young woman."

It is still unclear why the driver, who has not been identified, crashed into the home. The driver was taken to a local hospital by air ambulance following the accident. Their current condition is unknown.
