'Super Smash Bros Ultimate' Stages Won't Include Everything

Information regarding Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for Nintendo Switch is still trickling in from E3 2018, and a new interview in Japanese gaming publication Famitsu sheds some light on the highly-anticipated fighting game.

Speaking with Nate Bihldorff and Bill Trinen from Nintendo Treehouse, Famitsu -- via Source Gaming -- revealed that not every stage will return in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Unlike the character roster, which brings every fighter from every past Smash game the stages won't be receiving the same treatment.

Newsweek experienced a demo for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in NYC this week, and when we asked about the stages a Nintendo representative could not confirm or deny that every stage will be included.

The game will include new stages such as Moray Towers from the Splatoon series and Great Plateau Tower from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Trinen and Bihldorff also stated that the game balances and changes to how characters fight will be done by game director, Masahiro Sakurai. It's unclear if Sakurai will be handling the game balances himself, which was the case for Super Smash Bros Melee and Brawl, or if Namco will assist in the balancing.

But when Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was formally introduced during Nintendo's E3 2018 presentation, there was a large emphasis on the character changes.

Here are just a some examples of character balance changes in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate:

  • Marth/Roy/Lucina's Dancing Blade special is faster and easier to perform.
  • New Final Smash for King Dedede, Donkey Kong, Zelda.
  • Pac-Man and Sonic's Final Smash is faster.
  • Pokémon Trainer's Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard can be switched out easier.
  • Samus can charge her beam in midair and can be cancelled.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will release Dec. 7
