Swavy's Family Vow To Get 'Justice' After TikTok Star's Death Aged 19

The family of TikTok star Swavy has vowed to get "justice" for his death, after he was shot and killed aged 19 in a "senseless act of gun violence."

Swavy, real name Matima Miller, was shot on Monday in Wilmington, Delaware. He was taken to hospital before succumbing to his injuries, according to a statement released by the Wilmington Police Department.

Swavy's relatives have now shared their own impassioned message through the social media star's Instagram account, posting a family photograph from happier times.

"On the behalf of our family, we would like to say thank you for the continued support and love for Matima Miller also known as Swavy or Babyface," read the caption. "It is with great sadness that we announce Swavy's passing on 07/05/2021. He was taken away from us due to a senseless act of gun violence.

"Unfortunately, due to legality we are not able to provide much information on the events surrounding his passing. However, the family is working diligently to get justice for Swavy. This is just the beginning, we will forever keep his name alive and continue his legacy! The impact he had on others remains unmatched 💯."

The family also set up a GoFundMe page, writing: "As we deal with this heartbreak, we ask for your support in ensuring our son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend has a legendary home going ceremony.

"You can support us by contributing to Matima Miller's Official GofundMe account. Whether you can donate $1 or $100, it will be greatly appreciated and put to good use. We pray that you will continue to support our family through this difficult time."

As of Thursday, the account had raised more than $19,000 of its $20,000 target.

Swavy earned himself a following of 2.8 million through a series of videos on TikTok, which included a host of high-energy dance routines. His Instagram page has more than 450,000 followers.

The TikToker's final post, shared shortly before he died, took on an upbeat theme, as he asked his followers to pick their favorite of his past outfits.

Fellow TikTok star and close friend Damaury Mikula posted an emotional video on YouTube following Swavy's death, saying he will carry on the star's legacy.

"Seeing him getting taken out just don't make no sense," he said. "I literally just texted him and everything on Instagram before this—probably right before it happened."

"I'm about to go hard for you," said Mikula, who fought back tears as he added: "You were so innocent."
