Officers located and made contact with Marquez. Police said that officers recognized her from the missing person flyer.

“After speaking with Sydney, officers determined she was not a danger to herself or others, and the legal criteria for an Emergency Detention Order were not met,” the Jersey Village Police Department said.

Police said that Marquez also received a medical evaluation, and “EMS personnel determined there were no visible signs of trauma and no immediate need for further medical attention.”

“Sydney requested to leave of her own free will and advised that she did not want any assistance. She was released prior to her parents’ arrival in Houston at her own request,” the Jersey Village Police Department said.

Police said Marquez did not appear to be “in crisis” at the time of the encounter, and she was removed from missing status.

The Jersey Village Police Department said officers offered Marquez assistance, including hotel accommodations and food, but she declined.

Marquez was located again on Saturday and taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation, according to Bryan news station KBTX. The family told KHOU that she is in contact with them.
