Sydney Sweeney Joins Machine Gun Kelly for 'Downfalls High'—Here's What We Know
Machine Gun Kelly has announced a new "musical film experience" due for release early next year.
Downfalls High stars Euphoria's Sydney Sweeney and TikTok star Chase "Lil Huddy" Hudson, and the trailer (below) is gaining quite a lot of hype online.
The promo for the project was revealed at Sunday Night's American Music Awards following Kelly's performance.
The film will be narrated by the "Wild Boy" singer along with Travis Barker of Blink-182 fame with Kelly's latest album, "Tickets To My Downfall", providing the soundtrack. Singer Maggie Lindemann also stars.
As for the storyline, Downfalls High looks like a typical teen coming of age drama with Sweeney's participation reminiscent of HBO's Euphoria. In the trailer, Sweeney and Hudson's characters portray a young couple in high school.
Most details about the project are currently under wraps. On YouTube, it's described as: "A first if it's kind musical film experience."
Some Twitter users are surprised at Hudson's casting, with one tweet reading: "lil hiddy has brought nothing good to this earth why does he get to breathe the same air as sydney sweeney."
While another added: "that lil buddy guy renegaded his way into holding hands with sydney sweeney IM CRYING."
News of Sweeney's casting comes as the 23-year-old just landed a role in Pete Davidson and O'Shea Jackson drama American Sole alongside Camila Mendes, Bad Bunny and Offset.
According to Variety, Davidson and Jackson play twenty-somethings in severe college debt who use the fast cash of after-market sneaker reselling to achieve their American dream. That dream becomes a nightmare when their start-up runs out of cash.
Sweeney is set to play social media influencer, Bella.
"Sydney Sweeney is an incredible talent who is catapulting as a star," Adam Fogelson, chairman of STXfilms said. "She delivers stand out performances in Euphoria, and Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood, and she's a tremendous addition to the cast of American Sole."
Last night's AMAs also witnessed Kelly make his red carpet debut with girlfriend Megan Fox.
"Once in a lifetime, magic can happen. But this next performer, we've all been under his spell since his debut in 2012," Fox said introducing the pop-punk star's performance.
The two started dating this summer after meeting on the set of their upcoming movie Midnight in the Switchgrass, following Fox's separation from her estranged husband Brian Austin Green.
Downfalls High is due for release in January 2021.
