'Fortnite' Take the Elf Emote Delayed: Epic Games Blames Bug

Fortnite is currently celebrating the festive season with a new ice map, biplanes and exclusive free content. The 14 Days of Fortnite event is halfway through, with players completing a series of challenges to access to a gingerbread backpack buddy along with a collection of other swag.Everything was going smoothly in the land of Epic Games, until the eighth day, when a bug kept players from earning their rewards.

Fortnite Take The Elf Emote

The mission was simple: damage eight different players with eight different weapons. Complete the mission and go over to your quest objective screen; you'll see a prompt that the "Take the Elf" emote has been unlocked in your inventory. But when you go to check on your new prize, it isn't in your inventory. Players annoyed by this unfortunate circumstance have wondered when they are going to get their presents.

Epic Games has been quick to respond to the problem on Twitter. There seems to be a bug with the item, causing players who completed the objective to end up with nothing. Few things are more disappointing than thinking you ended up with a present haul on Santa's nice list, only to end up with a stocking of coal. (Foes that really happen? I'm Jewish and don't get this tradition.)

We have identified an issue with the Take the Elf emote not being granted to players after completing the Day 8 challenge. We will grant this reward to all players that earned it early next year.

Players who complete the quest during the 14 Days of Fortnite will find the emote in their inventories sometime "early next year." It's unclear if that means January, or some other time in the first half of 2019. Even after the announcement, players have continued to complain on Twitter about how they didn't get the Elf.

The "Take the Elf" emote is inspired by the "Take the L" dance that's become very popular among players. Mocking others after you murder them with a goofy jig while an L is plastered across your forehead is enough to turn even the nicest player salty.

When do you think "Take the Elf" will be released? Tell us in the comments.
