After canceling the demolition on Saturday morning, the Tappan Zee bridge in New York will finally come down Tuesday morning.

Due to strong winds, the demolition was rescheduled for Tuesday at 10 a.m., according to a statement from The New NY Bridge. The blast is set to last for 30 seconds and will sound just like fireworks, according to the statement.

In September, construction workers heard a loud pop coming from the bridge which changed the plans to demolish the structure by taking it down piece by piece, The Journal News previously reported. The loud pop made construction workers determine that the bridge was structurally unsound, according to the local news website. In December, plans were approved to demolish the bridge and drop it into the water.

The explosives that will detonate the support columns on the bridge close to the Westchester side, according to a fact sheet by The Journal News.

How will Traffic be affected on Tuesday morning?

Traffic on the New York State Thruway (I-87/I-287) between exits 11 (Nyack – South Nyack – US Route 9W) and exit 9 (Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow – Route 9) will be stopped in both directions by police for about 45 minutes when the demolition happens, according to The New NY Bridge. It will be inspected again by Tappan Zee construction workers before vehicles will be able to proceed. Motorists are strongly encouraged to find alternative routes.

Will it be live-streamed?

Yes! Tappan Zee Constructors will have a webcam set up on the New NY Bridge website so visitors can watch the live demolition, according to local publication New York Upstate. The publication also has a list of places to watch the demolition up close. Local news publications like lohud.com and PIX 11 News will be also live streaming the event on their websites and Facebook pages.

Will local residents be impacted by the demolition?

The New NY Bridge website states that there are no residences around the safety zone and local residents will be affected despite the 30 second sound of the blast. The website also states that there will be monitors placed in Westchester and Rockland counties "to monitor any vibrations or air-blasts generated by the demolition."

Will there be safety measures taken on the water?

The U.S. Coast Guard will establish a 2,500-foot safety radius around the demolition, according to the New NY Bridge website. For approximately three hours on Tuesday starting at 8:30 a.m., the navigation channel will be closed. The material from the blast will be recovered from the water in the upcoming weeks, the website states.
