Calvin Denker was caught on camera joining in with "Cruel Summer" as Swift danced on stage behind him at her Minneapolis concert on June 23, 2023. The footage went viral online, clocking up thousands of views on TikTok, which later ran into the millions when Denker made further TikToks on the subject.

But while he gained social media fame, what happened at Swift's gig ended up getting the security guard fired.

Explaining what happened in a TikTok, Denker confessed that he started working with a Minneapolis security company because he liked the idea of getting to attend sporting and music events without having to buy tickets and that a Swift gig was "always a goal."

The first night he worked the star's show was "phenomenal," he said, although he wasn't allowed to turn his back on the crowd to watch her perform.

"So, after night one, I was realizing how close Taylor Swift was getting to me, so I really wanted to get a photo to document it," he said. "So, I handed out these little pieces of paper that said I wasn't allowed to have my phone out, but if Taylor Swift comes right behind me, please take a photo of me and text it to my number."

He handed them out to a couple of fans but then a different person in the crowd made a TikTok, which Denker said he was "so happy" to see going viral.

"Long story short, I was fired for it," he told his followers. "My former security company said that they had a rule against taking photos with any of their performers and the main issue that they had was with my follow-up video where I said I had handed out pieces of paper to the people in front of me to ask that I be sent any photos that I made my way into."

Denker added: "Every photo of me from that night was from behind the barricade, like any other photo from a fan would be. I never took my own phone out. And above all else, I made sure that Taylor Swift was safe and all the fans had a good time."
