A woman renovating her home discovered something heartbreaking that was left behind by the previous owners.
Anna and her partner from Gothenburg in Sweden bought their first house together in 2019. It was a house that was already familiar to her partner. "The family that lived there before is a family friend," Anna told Newsweek.
Anna met the previous owners many times before they made the move, and one thing stuck out to her about them: their old pup, Dizzy. "I met him a few times. He was a great dog," she said. "Big and fluffy."

Around the time Anna and her partner moved into the house, however, Dizzy sadly had to be put down. "He was very old, and they were moving into an apartment," Anna said. "He couldn’t walk much or see very well, so sadly it was his time."
Americans love their pets. In 2023, a Pew Research Center survey of just over 5,000 U.S. adults found 51 percent not only consider their pets to be a part of their family but also say they are as much a part of their family as a human member.
So, when a much-loved pet like Dizzy passes away, it leaves a hole in the lives of those left behind. It is often the case that grieving owners encounter mementos in the home or recall once-forgotten memories of a furry friend there.
In that sense, it may have helped Dizzy’s family to have moved to a new home and a fresh start, away from the cherished times they had with their dog. But the memories of Dizzy remain, as Anna discovered while renovating the property.

In a video posted to TikTok under the handle @plasticparty Anna revealed how she and her partner discovered Dizzy’s old pawprints marking the floor around the front door.
Some may have chosen to sand over the prints and start anew; not Anna, though. "I didn't have the heart to remove it," she said. "Since we knew the dog, it didn't feel quite right to remove the prints. If someone else moved in, they would probably get rid of it because the state of the step is quite bad, but wouldn't feel right."
The decision to keep the pawprint in place was one welcomed by viewers on TikTok.
One user wrote: "Thank you for keeping them. This dog will be watching over you for as long as you live in his old house."
Another commented: "So sweet. We lost our girl on the weekend and I've not been able to mop her pawprints by the back door." A third added: "Aww. Things like these make life worth living."
Though Anna is looking to the future and has many more renovation plans in mind for the house, the pawprint remains, and that’s something she’s very happy about.
"It feels like he’s watching over the house still. It’s nice to let the house have a little soul left from the old owners," she said. "Still, through all the renovations, the house gets to keep a bit of its old soul, feels nice."
