Ted Cruz Says CRT Is Rooted in Marxism, Radicals Are Teaching Kids That All Whites Are Racist

Texas GOP Senator Ted Cruz blasted critical race theory (CRT) teachings in a Saturday video shared on Twitter in which he said the "Marxist" ideology views "every issue as a battle between the races."

Cruz offered his latest scathing view of the critical race theory curriculum, a controversial academic concept that centers around American history's propping up of racism, slavery and white supremacy.

The senator, who last month introduced a Senate bill to ban the teaching of CRT in public schools, said the teaching framework tells young white kids that they are "irredeemably racist."

This week, the Biden Department of Education was caught trying to push Critical Race Theory into schools all across this country.

"This week, the Biden Department of Education was caught trying to push Critical Race Theory into schools all across this country," the Texas GOP senator alleges in the clip, "putting out a radical document that encouraged people to 'disrupt whiteness and other forms of oppression.'"

He later says: "[The radicals of CRT are] teaching our kids that America is irredeemably racist. They're teaching our kids that every aspect of American history is about preserving slavery and white supremacy. They're teaching our kids that all white people are racist and there's nothing you can do about it."

Cruz's tweet included a video segment of a Fox News host saying the cable network's coverage of the "radical" teaching curriculum forced the Biden administration to "walk back" their support over alleged ties to an abolitionist teaching network.

"They were forced to retract, they claimed it was an error. I'll tell you what the error was: the error was they were caught," Cruz says, agreeing with the segment.

Cruz and other prominent conservatives, including former Vice President Mike Pence have, blasted the concept of critical race theory for weeks. Several states, among them Florida and Texas, passed laws to ban it across public schools. Pence earlier this month declared that CRT is simply "state-sanctioned racism."

"Critical race theory is rooted in Marxist theory and it began, sadly, at my alma mater, Harvard Law School, where you had Marxists there. Karl Marx viewed the world as a battle between the socio-economic classes. The owners of capital and the working men and women. Well, what critical race theory did is it takes that Marxist view of the world and instead of dividing us based on class, it divides us based on race," Cruz continues.

In introducing the END CRT Act to the Senate, Cruz said last month: "The federal government has no right to force a political agenda onto Americans, especially one that aims to tear down our institutions and divide us based on race." The legislation would ban any federal funding for critical race theory instruction.

Newsweek reached out to Cruz's Senate office for any additional remarks Saturday afternoon regarding critical race theory teachings.
