Teen Saves Young Girl From Being Led Away by 'Creepy' Stranger

A young girl in England was rescued from a terrifying encounter thanks to the intervention of a quick-thinking onlooker.

According to The Liverpool Echo, 15-year-old Emma Carlile was walking home from her high school in Wallasey Village when she saw a child being approached by a man.

Emma's father, identified only as Rik, recounted his daughter's story to the news outlet: "She said she was walking along and she saw a 'creepy looking man' approach a young girl and put his arm around her, which she thought looked odd."

The stranger reportedly told the girl, who looked to be around aged 11 or younger, that he was friends with her father.

Explained Rik: "[Emma] noticed when the man approached [the girl] she looked a bit startled." She "then...heard the man say, 'I'm your dad's friend, don't you remember me? I've been to your house before.'"

"No, I don't remember," replied the young girl. But that didn't stop the man.

"He kept going on saying, 'I'm your dad's friend, I've met you before,'" said Rik.

"Emma said you could tell that the girl...had no recollection of him whatsoever which is why she kept an eye on them," he added.

At that point, the child reportedly tried to take out her phone, possibly to call one of her parents. "No you don't need to ring anyone, you know who I am, I'm your dad's mate," the man allegedly told her.

Suspecting that something was wrong with the encounter, Emma followed the pair around a corner. She soon decided to speak up and "shouted the first name that came into her head," explained Rik to the Echo.

"Hey Bethany!" said Emma, indirectly confronting the stranger by pretending to know the young girl. She continued with a clever lie: "Dad will be home tonight from police training."

"Apparently the girl looked at her and just opened her eyes wide as if to say thank you," said Rik. "She said she looked startled."

As soon as Emma intervened, the man is said to have quickly left the scene. Meanwhile, Emma told the girl to get home safely and immediately tell her parents what happened.

The news comes just weeks after an 11-year-old girl in Florida fought off an attempted kidnapping while waiting at a bus stop. Footage of the incident shows a man exiting his car and grabbing the child, who immediately resisted and soon escaped. The man then ran back to his car and fled the scene. A suspect was arrested and charged with attempted kidnapping of a child under 13, aggravated assault, and battery.
