Texas GOP Rep.'s Challenger Steps in Actual Excrement in Attack Ad: 'I'm Tired of Louie Gohmert's Bullsh*t'

In a new attack ad, Texas GOP Rep. Louie Gohmert's challenger, Hank Gilbert, stepped in actual excrement while saying that he was tired of "Gohmert's bullsh*t."

"I don't know about you, but I'm tired of @replouiegohmert's bullsh*t!" Gilbert wrote as a caption to his video, with an emoji. "Texas deserves better. This is the year we flip Texas, and there is no better way to help make that happen than sending Louie packing!"

As the video begins, Gilbert introduces himself and says, "it seems no matter where I go, I can't seem to escape Louie Gohmert's bullsh*t," as he can be seen stepping excrement. The video then shows Gilbert watching a clip of Gohmert on his phone.

"We oughta be proud of who represents us—not embarrassed," Gilbert says before another clip of Gohmert is shown on his phone. This clip references comments Gohmert made in 2013, when he suggested that members of Al-Qaeda were taught to "act like Hispanics" in order to illegally cross the border from Mexico into the U.S.

Gilbert is then seen in his car when another clip of Gohmert can be heard disparaging transgender services in the military. "We will take that money that could save another member's life, and we'll spend that on this expensive surgery to change your organs, maybe cut 'em off or add some," Gohmert said in 2017.

"That's why I'm running against Louie, because we're fed up with his hateful nonsense," Gilbert said in the video. "This is the year we're gonna flip Texas, and there's no better place to start than sending Louie Gohmert packing."

Gilbert's ad once again shows an old clip of Gohmert from 2013 where he said, "It's kind of like marriage when you say it's not a man and a woman any more. Then why not have three men and one woman, or four women and one man, or why not somebody has a love for an animal?" during a conference call with the Tea Party group.

"Louie cares more about sucking up to his buddy [President Donald] Trump than fighting for us," Gilbert says, before another clip of Gohmert is played, where he can be heard arguing against the Democrats proposal to allow proxy voting amid the coronavirus pandemic.

"We might get something and die. They didn't do that in the Spanish flu days," Gohmert can be heard saying in Gilbert's video.

As the video ends, Gilbert says, "Their failed leadership has put our country and our state in crisis. And I've run out of patience for Louie's bull," as he can be seen scraping off the excrement off of his shoe.

Gilbert and Gohmert are set to face off to represent Texas' 1st congressional district, during the general election on November 3.

While speaking with Newsweek, Vince Leibowitz, chief strategist and campaign director for Gilbert's campaign, said that they were prompted to create this video after discussing "Louie Gohmert's record, and who Louie Gohmert is and what Louie Gohmert has had to say the last 15 years."

"People who see this video may look at it [as] a wonderful and lighthearted attempt to remind people of Louie Gohmert's record, but it's far more than that. It is reminding people of the dangers of having someone like Louie Gohmert in public office," Leibowitz told Newsweek. "It's dangerous to have people like this in Congress when you can liken everything they do to bullsh*t."

He added, "People need to realize that there's a much bigger story here, and that is that there are poor people, there are people that are suffering that cannot get access to health care in Louie's district, and he has done nothing for those people."

Newsweek reached out to Gohmert's office for comment but did not receive a response in time for publication.
