A Texas school maintenance worker was fired from his school district on Wednesday following accusations that he sexually assaulted a child.

Jose Armando Lopez Solorio, 61, was accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl on February 1, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said. Solario was charged with “super” aggravated sexual assault of a child, which occurs when the victim is either under six years of age, or if someone previously convicted of violent sexual assault of a victim under the age of 14 commits the same crime again.

Authorities said that Solorio was located at a family member’s home in Houston, where he was babysitting small children. While being questioned, Solorio reportedly admitted to sexually abusing a child and gave detectives information that led to the “super” charge upgrade.

The alleged assaults began when the victim was four or five years old, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. It was not clear what Solorio’s relationship was to the child.

Solorio was booked into the Montgomery County Jail, where he is being held on $250,000 bail, jail records show. During the booking process, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) contacted the sheriff’s office and advised detectives that Solorio’s immigration status would likely be reviewed because he engaged in the crimes within the U.S. before he received his residency status.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said it notified the Pasadena Independent School District of Solorio's arrest. In a statement to KHOU, the district said it fired Solorio on Wednesday, when it learned of his arrest.

“On the afternoon of February 6, 2019, Pasadena ISD was informed by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office that Mr. Jose Lopez Solorio, a Pasadena ISD Building and Grounds helper, was arrested for continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14 and aggravated sexual assault of a child,” the district said.

The statement continued: “Upon learning this information, Pasadena ISD took immediate action to terminate this individual’s employment. Mr. Lopez Solorio’s position did not require direct contact with students.”

Anyone with information about the case, including any possible other victims, were urged to contact the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at 936-760-5800.
